Country Home Interior Decor | Fienning Residence | Frederick + Frederick Architects

When Molly and Ted Fienning bought the Robert Smalls house there was only one inadequate bathroom and virtually no closets; typical in historic houses. The house’s history intrigued them. In 1839, Robert Smalls was born a slave on this property. In the civil was he became a U.S. Army captain. He went on to serve in the SC House of Representative, SC Senate and was a United States Congressman for 5 terms. After the civil war, Robert Smalls purchased this and adjacent properties. It is believed that this circa 1855 house was moved to the property as part of the Smalls estate. The original house was two rooms over two; it appears that a one story wing was added when the house was moved. The double front porches were removed many years ago and replaced with a small stoop. It is atypical of Beaufort houses because the porches are on the west instead of the south......more

Colourful Cozy Home Decor | Cinnamon Shore-Port Aransas | Texas | Tracery Interiors

When Southern Living Idea House invited us to design one of the magazine’s 2009 Idea Houses, we gladly accepted the challenge of creating the perfect family beach escape. Working with Dungan Nequette Architects, we developed an interior featuring white-washed wood walls, lots of well thought out built-ins and cozy bunk beds. An elevated kitchen takes advantage of beautiful Gulf-front views while an antique mirrored backsplash reflects the scenery so that everyone in the kitchen can enjoy it. The home’s furnishings are durable, practical and accented with a vibrant color palette which is repeated in original artwork and vintage accessories.....more

Rustic Timber Interior Decor | Compson Bach | New Zealand | Herbstarchitects

A covered outdoor deck, sun court, kitchen and seating areas transform a standard linear plan into individual spaces suited to summer holidays. Block piers and double timber posts hold delicate trusses that provide a structural rhythm that reinforces individual living spaces. Translucent walls enclose private terraces that focus views on beautiful ridgelines rather than joining the jostling water views. At every step this is architecture of unexpected beauty and rich simplicity.........more

Modern Vernacular Home Decor | Potrero House | San Francisco | California | Cary Berstein Architect

A third floor addition with complete interior and exterior renovations was designed for a quirky house on a unique city property. The modern vernacular vocabulary of the architecture celebrates the singular qualities of this special urban environment. Sustainable features include: high-performance windows, FSC-certified siding, radiant heat, reclaimed timber floors, low-VOC paint, ipe decking, and a solar PV array.........more

Colourful Tropical Home Decor | Campion Platt

Transforming this charming example of a 1926 Palm Beach house by architect Gustav Maas was a study in restraint and embellishment. We traversed the process of having the house land marked and won the 2008 Polly Earl Preservation Award for our efforts. While maintaining the historic exterior, we played with the interior layout. We embellished the gracious entry and opened up what was once a series of formal rooms. The new plan helped set the tone for a more relaxed and casual lifestyle. The interiors are filled with vibrant tropical hues and clean modern furniture forms. Each room flows seamlessly into the next and gives the overall feeling of a playful and joyous place to retire and escape......more

Modern Interior Home Decor | Old Bernal House | Feldman Architecture

IKEA Beddinge Resmo Sofa Bed - $ 399.00

One of the oldest houses in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood, this 1860's cottage sat in disrepair for years. Feldman Architecture's charge was to repair, expand and modernize the small, dark house while maintaining the rustic charm of the original building.

Victoria Ghost Chair - $ 330.00
Cloud Pendant Lamp - $ 400.00

To accomplish this, the firm kept the facade and envelope of the existing structure and added a contemporary, but unobtrusive, addition: a narrow, ten-foot-wide wing that contains a garage, bedroom suite and studio office spaces on two levels. The roof and upper floor in the center of the house were cut away to create a central light core that washes a stone wall and illuminates the kitchen and living room. Large new windows create a connection with the backyard. Careful mixing of rough stone and wood with clean glass and metal breathes new life into the once-neglected structure........more
